Each Partner in SB&P is a Limited Liability Partnership controlled by the above individual members and the Gerald Edelman partnership, respectively.
Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I have always had a natural empathy with business owners. Now, as Managing Partner of SB&P, I have to deal with many of the same challenges that my clients face when running their own businesses. Having a real understanding of these issues helps me to give them both practical advice and high-level strategic support.
What makes my role so enjoyable is the relationships I develop with my clients. It’s very rewarding to see them succeed in their businesses and I am proud to be able to play a part in their success, whilst also helping and supporting them through the more difficult times. I also love the variety that my work brings. Every day is different as every owner managed business is unique and you never know what situation you will be asked to help with or advise upon.
As well as working with SMEs in a range of sectors, my areas of specialism include: audit, forensics, and business and financial advisory services. My special interests in these fields are: professional services, not for profit and pension schemes, expert witness appointments, business valuations, sales and acquisitions, and due diligence.
A bit about my background
My experience, working primarily with SME clients, has been gained from more than 30 years’ in practice. I trained and qualified with an international firm before joining a regional practice for a number of years. I then moved to specialise in forensic work before joining SB&P. Along the way, I also spent a short time acting as a Financial Director for a small group of companies in the textile industry, on a consultancy basis.
What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
I travelled to the Far East on my own when I was a student. I know that this is commonplace now, but 35 years ago it was unheard of. It was the first time I had ever flown or travelled anywhere on my own. I was nervous but it was an incredible experience!
What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
Dare to be different. Be more confident. Count your blessings.
Who inspires you?
Stephen Hawking. He achieved so much in the face of extreme adversity. He never lost his hope, his ambition or his sense of humour!
